City of Vaughan - Vaughan Metropolitan Centre

The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC) is a "Places to Grow” urban growth centre along the Highway 7 corridor, east of Highway 400, in the City of Vaughan. The proposed intensification includes a wide range of commercial, employment, and residential uses, along with significant transportation and transit improvements, most notably the planned extension of the TTC Spadina subway network terminating at the VMC station.

The Municipal Infrastructure Group Ltd. was retained by the City of Vaughan to establish a master servicing strategy for the proposed intensification of the 200-hectare redevelopment community, in support of secondary plan, and as part of a Class EA Master Plan. The project included review and recommendations associated with storm, sanitary, and water supply services, grading implications associated with the proposed transportation network, and preliminary review of financial and implementation aspects of the strategy.

The project included a detailed review of existing stormwater management facilities and challenges, and provided a series of improvement opportunities ranging from the retrofit of existing facilities to the introduction of new ones. As a measure to reducing stormwater infrastructure requirements, the study also evaluated the merits of a number of low impact and sustainable development technologies, and recommended that these be applied as part of redevelopment efforts.
