Taunton Rd / RR57 Intersection and Bowmanville Creek Bridge
This project involves the Environmental Assessment and detailed design of the Bowmanville Creek Bridge and Taunton Road and Regional Road 57 Intersection in the Municipality of Clarington. The Bowmanville Creek Bridge, built in 1954, is a concrete rigid frame structure with two lanes for vehicular travel. The Taunton Road and Regional Road 57 intersection has experienced increased traffic volumes and requires the widening of the roadway platform both at the intersection and across the Bowmanville Creek Bridge. Due to the age of the bridge and the condition and thickness of the road over the bridge, the Region is carrying out a study to review alternative solutions to address the bridge deficiencies and accommodate the intersection modifications.
Scope of Services
TMIG was retained to complete a Schedule ‘C’ Municipal Class EA and detailed design for the Bowmanville Creek Bridge replacement and the reconstruction of the intersection of Taunton Road and Regional Road 57.
The intersection requires additional auxiliary lanes (dedicated right-turn lanes on all approaches), improved radii to accommodate truck turning movements, and redesign of the existing lanes to accommodate current and future traffic volumes (storage, taper, deceleration lengths, etc). It is expected that the bridge width will need to accommodate four lanes (two through lanes, left-turn, and right-turn), 1.2m-wide paved shoulders, and possibly sidewalks.
