This project involves the installation of a 500mm dia. watermain along Nashville Road and 400mm dia. watermain northerly to the elevated tank. This project is part of a larger program in response to the need to replace existing wells with lake-based water supply. It also included the relocation of an existing 75mm-diameter forcemain, which required coordination with the pumping station operator to allow for the connections.
Scope of Services
TMIG provided engineering services, including a Schedule ‘A+’ Class EA, detailed design, construction administration, inspection, and materials testing. TMIG also provided utility coordination meetings between the Region and all utility companies, and hydraulic coordination between the City and the Region.
The proposed watermain connects to the existing 600mm CPP watermain near Whisper Lane, the watermains at the elevated tank, and the local 300mm watermains. To minimize impact to traffic and existing infrastructure, three microtunnelling drives were proposed and constructed (under TCPL and Enbridge along Nashville Road and under Highway 27). The project includes microtunnelling, the crossing of the Humber River on the underside of the existing bridge, and the comparative evaluation of suspending the watermain from the existing bridge or crossing using trenchless technologies.
