Krosno Creek Flood Reduction Study
The majority of the Krosno Creek watershed was developed prior to the emergence of modern stormwater quantity and quality control practices.
Scope of Services
The study scope included the development of a new calibrated PCSWMM hydrologic / hydraulic model of the watershed, concept designs, and cost estimates for all reasonable alternatives, and preliminary design of the preferred solution. The preferred solution is to replace three undersized culverts.
The PCSWMM watershed hydrologic / hydraulic model represented the major storm sewers, overland flow routes, and open reaches, with resulting peak flow rates almost 50% lower than those from an earlier hydrologic model. It also integrated the hydraulics of the open channels, culverts, and bridges and was used to automatically generate the floodplains associated with different storm events. This facilitated the evaluation of a number of alternative flood reduction solutions. The SWM strategy for the downtown redevelopment recommends adherence to current City and TRCA guidelines, with incentives to encourage new development to retain a greater volume of water on site through infiltration or re-use.
