Green Streets Technical Guidelines
Toronto has initiated the preparation of the Green Streets Technical Guidelines to advance the application of the Wet Weather Flow Management Guidelines (WWFMG) and the Toronto Green Standard to road allowances throughout the City.
Scope of Services
The Green Streets Technical Guidelines are being designed to achieve the following objectives: align with the City’s WWFMG to facilitate the implementation of source control goals through green infrastructure within the City’s streets; identify and prioritize green infrastructure techniques that satisfy multiple objectives; establish a methodology for determining the applicability of various Green Streets initiatives in relation to street typologies and implementation scenarios; provide a practical framework for the City to improve resilience to changing climatic conditions within the context of broader sustainability objectives.
The project included extensive coordination with the majority of the City’s internal departments to understand how road allowance projects are currently implemented, and to define the approaches needed to incorporate Green Streets into this framework. The project also involves the characterization of all of the City’s road allowance assets in a manner that makes clear the viability of different Green Streets mechanisms for each context.
