Ferguson Avenue Class EA
TMIG is currently conducting a Schedule ‘B’ Environmental Assessment to examine options for mitigating operational and safety concerns on Ferguson Avenue. The road is a two-lane rural collector between Highway 7 and Vipond Road. The right-of-way consists of two paved lanes, narrow gravel shoulders, ditches to accommodate drainage, and no sidewalks. In evaluating the impacts of the alternatives, the traffic impacts on the surrounding road network were taken into account.
Scope of Services
The project includes conducting a traffic study to confirm the perceived speeding problem on Ferguson Avenue, develop an accurate problem / opportunity statement, determine and evaluate alternatives to solve the problem, and prepare a conceptual design for the preferred alternative.
The alternatives developed for this EA include options for modifying the road network, potentially closing Ferguson Avenue, and cross-sectional improvements to address pedestrian and cyclist use of the road. The public consultation plan is robust, based on the long history of public involvement in the project and the political sensitivities associated with options that include possible road closures.
