Churchill Park SWM Plan and Basement Flooding Analysis
This project addressed the City’s concerns with regards to the stormwater management for Churchill Park and simultaneously evaluated basement flooding issues and potential solutions in the adjacent neighbourhood.
Scope of Services
TMIG was retained to undertake an analysis of existing drainage patterns in Churchill Park. The team worked alongside the ongoing Park Master Plan process to incorporate stormwater management infrastructure that would protect the downstream receiving areas, which include Cootes Paradise and the Royal Botanical Gardens. As the neighbourhood adjacent to the park had experienced periodic basement flooding, opportunities to alleviate this issue were also explored.
A significant opportunity existed to combine the infrastructure needs for both the park and the neighbourhood via an integrated and comprehensive stormwater management strategy utilizing the latest in low impact and sustainable development technologies. TMIG completed a systematic process of identifying, evaluating, and selecting the measures needed to achieve the project objectives.
