Acton Watermain Replacement
This project involved the abandonment and replacement of an existing 150mm-, 200mm-, and 300mm-diameter cast and ductile iron watermain. The project also included the installation of a 300mm PVC watermain on Main Street, as well as new hydrants and services.
Scope of Services
TMIG provided full engineering services, including preliminary design, detailed design, tender period assistance, and contract administration for the watermain replacement.
The section of Highway 7 through Acton is a well-travelled road. Work included a traffic management plan that was coordinated with the Town of Halton Hills to maintain access to existing residents, institutions, and businesses. A portion of the open cut construction was below the rock and required a rock removal. The lining (CIPP) was proposed and installed for two sections of the existing 300mm watermain. The northern section was approximately 75m underneath the existing rail, and the southern section was approximately 105m under the existing culvert. Rehabilitation was selected to minimize impacts to the existing rail in the northern section and minimize works within challenging subsurface conditions adjacent to the culvert. Rehabilitation was selected following a review of new installation methods (open cut and trenchless).
